How does Ekologix Decking compare to traditional timber decking?

Because Ekologix Decking absorbs less water than traditional timber, it’s also less susceptible to water-damage, including mould and rot. It’s also less likely to rot, warp, crack or splinter.

Will Ekologix Decking loose its colour or fade?

The color of your Ekologix Decking will lighten as a result of water and sunlight exposure and will reach its overall “weathered” color in around 6 to 12 months. However, you should not expect any further fading or graying of the colors. This is based on a comparison against a timber deck left untreated and an Ekologix Decking left untreated in the same environmental conditions over the same period of time.

What kind of maintenance or cleaning is involved with Ekologix Decking?

Use warm water, mixed with bi-carb soda or sugar soap. Scrub the deck with a stiff bristle broom to take care of the vast majority of stains. For tougher stains, please refer to our comprehensive Care and Maintenance Guide.

What tools are required to install Ekologix Decking?

You don’t need any special tools to install your Ekologix Decking. Use standard woodworking tools such as cordless drills and router to cut, drill, saw and fasten the Ekologix Decking boards.

What type of fasteners should be used with Ekologix Decking?

We recommend using good quality stainless steel screws. Make sure to pre-drill the screws and countersink for a flush finish.

I don’t want to see the screws. How can I achieve this look?

If you want to keep your top surface free from visible decking screws, we recommend using the Camo Hidden Decking Fastening System. The Camo system will only work on timber joists and is also available at Bunnings Warehouse.

Can I use a nail gun?

Ekologix Decking is just as dense as any good quality hardwood timbers. These timbers require pre-drilling and Ekologix Decking is no different. Please make sure to not use nail guns on Ekologix Decking.

Can Ekologix Decking be used as joists?

No, Ekologix Decking cannot be used as joists and is not classified as a ‘structural’ or load bearing product.

Does Ekologix Decking get hotter than wood in summer?

Yes, Ekologix Decking gets marginally hotter than wood during the summer. Moreover, the darker colours will absorb more heat than the lighter colours, so please exercise caution on hot days. As a rule of thumb, avoid walking barefoot on the Ekologix Decking – or any type of wooden surface – on a 30+ degree day.

Can Ekologix Decking’s surface be repaired if scratched?

You can repair minor scruffs, scratches and marks by sanding. We recommend using 24 to 40 grit sandpaper and sanding only along the grain direction of the deck. Make sure to wash the repaired area after you’ve finished sanding. No further action, such as sealing, oiling, etc., is necessary. Please note that over sanding can result in unsightly areas.

Can I oil, paint or seal Ekologix Decking?

Oiling, painting or sealing is not necessary and, in fact, not recommended. If you choose to use these treatments, please note that over time, the oil might become patchy, and the paint might crack or peel.
To preserve your Ekologix Decking, simply clean it regularly, following the instructions on the Ekologix Decking cleaning chart.

Can Ekologix Decking be pressure washed?

Yes, you can use a pressure washer, provided it‘s not greater than 1500 PSI and it’s not applied closer than 30cm from the decking surface. Use a standard fan nozzle and not a dirt blaster type nozzle.

Where is Ekologix Decking made?

Ekologix Decking is designed and tested in Australia and manufactured in China under our strict quality controls and monitoring.
